Mouthwash Causes Cancer

January 13th 2009 23:55
A new report has stated that antiseptic mouthwashes are a major cause of oral cancers. The article published in the latest issue of Dental Journal of Australia has devided experts. The journal states that there is "sufficent evidence that alcohol-containing mouthwashes contribute to the development of cancer"

However, Prof Laurence Walsh, head of the school of dentistry at the University of Queensland criticised the authors of the paper for drawing on a "small and selective group of studies" and that "reviews over many years have failed to show any statistically significant assoociation between mouthwash and oral cancer."
