Losing weight for summer

December 11th 2007 06:13

I am embarking on a quest to discover the efficaciousness of the South Beach Diet. Basically it requires me to eschew all carbs - including those found in fruit and veg!

The fisrt 2 days have been tough - morning teas and lunches in the office have me torn between my ambition to lose weight and my desire to save money.

The first phase is the strictest and I have been eating a breakfast of egg whites, pepper and coriander. It is probably better than it sounds. Tonight I dine on chicken breast and a huge salad - I can eat serves as large as I like, so long as I stick to what is and isn't allowed.

Has anyone had a crack at this diet? How did it go? Did you exercise too?

I will let you know the results as they appear (or disappear!)

Trust me Andy, diets don't work, long term, they do more harm than good, what you eat is important but the most benefits come from walking, simple isn't it. Just keep going, one foot in front of the other, those weird diets can do harm, unfortunately and they have been shown over and over again to be unsuccessful in the long term. Walk, man, walk. That guy looks as though he has his share and somebody else's and he's mighty proud of it, not my type really, but I appreciate the stats.

Point taken. However - I always enagge in some serious face stuffing over Christmas and I see this diet as a kind of penance. PLus, it has actually got me eating very healthily! Joust no bread, pasta, fruit and some veg. I am munching heaps of spinach, lettuce, bok choy, ccelery, nuts, eggs, fish, chicken. Made a Thai green curry last night with waterchestnut and capsicum and chicken - delicious! The trick is mainting a healthy diet long term . . . .

That picture shocked me to my core...

I can't give any advice on diets as I like my food. Are there diets that incorporate Peking duck?

Hi there,

I tried the South Beach diet a few years ago, it was great! My body felt cleansed after the first few days and I found that I didn't crave carbs or sugary, fatty things after that. My mum and I kept up Stage 1 for the two weeks, however we found it difficult to balance everything out in Stage 2, when you re-introduce carbs into your diet, so it fell apart somewhere around there.
Good luck!

Lila - I probably need a better role model than that dude in the USA togs. I really like how he keeps his military boots on, and did you notice he has some cash stuffed in his undies?

Postmod - I am enjoying all the vegies. At day 3. No bread cravings yet and salds are going down well.
