Steven King and his Cocaine Habbit
September 22nd 2008 22:16
I have just finished reading a book called On Writing by Steven King. In it he talks openly about his struggle with alcohol and cocaine. He says that he became so bad that he can't even remember writing Cujo one of his all time classics. He became sure that his writing skills were largely due to these mind altering substances and as with any addict there came a point when he had to make a choice, the choice was laid down to him by his wife, his life and family or his drug and writing. He thought at the time that the time he was giving up a career that he loved but he valued the love of his family and his own life more. It wasn't long after getting straight that he realised that cocaine had not fuled his imagination at all and once again he began writing in earnest.
I am re telling this story because I want people to realise that addiction happens to the best of us and if you are surrounded by loved ones and your own will to live and achieve great things anything is possible.
Anyone who regularly reads this blog will know of my own struggle with cocaine and of my support for any rehab centre where help is available. So if you need help or just somone to talk to try visiting these websites.
